The collection consists of 148 photographs collected by the McKeown family. They depict people, buildings, towns, sled dog teams, ships, animals, and scenery. The towns or areas include Anchorage, Chitina, Cordova, Donnelly, Fairbanks, Fish Egg (Craig), Ft. Gibbon, Ft. Liscum, Gulkana, Holy Cross, Juneau, Prince Rupert, Portage Bay, Rapids, Ruby, St. Michael, Seward, Skagway, Tonsina, Tulako (Washington), Wortmanns, Unalaska, Valdez, and Thompson's Pass. The ships include the S.S. Alaska, S.S. Edith, the Henry H. Field (cable ship), the S.S. Mariposa, S.S. Olympia, the S.S. Northwestern, and the revenue cutter Ungala.
